With all of the attention garnered these days at Tesla's Model S sedan, it may be easy to forget all about the fledgling EV-maker's current product, the Roadster. As cool as the Tesla Roadster may be - which is to say, very, very cool - it's not a particularly useful vehicle for the vast majority of the population. After all, it's got just two cramped seats and hardly any storage space to speak of. Tesla CEO Elon Musk knows this, especially since his daily driver happens to be a Porsche 911 Turbo, which is one of the most practical supercars in the world.

With that in mind, perhaps it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that Musk has plans to make the next sportscar from Tesla a much more practical vehicle. That reportedly includes the addition of rear seats, plenty of storage space and possibly even all-wheel drive. All of this means that it will definitely not be based on the underpinnings of the Lotus Elise, as is the case with the current Roadster. Instead, the next Tesla sportscar will share its guts with the automaker's planned Model S, which will allow for "greater functionality with avant garde, aggressive" styling. Perfect. We'll take two.
